LINGERIE BAGS

I needed to make some more Birthday presents so a few weeks ago I raided my stash and came up with four different fabrics. Two bags are made from quilting cottons, the third is made from Satin and cotton and the last is made from calico with some strips from a Jelly roll used at the top and bottom.
So I measured a rough pattern for the bag - 18inches x 12.5inches and added extra fabric so the bag would be lined. The black ribbon was purchased from Spotlight and was the only purchase I had to make.
The embroidery design came from here on Etsy and is easy to stitch out. The hardest decision was which colour threads to use!
What do you think? Like any of them??

CLOTH PADS

I recently purchased a pattern for making cloth menstrual pads on Etsy from seller Ihearttosew and immediately set about searching thru my huge stash of fabrics (flannel and cottons) to make these and found the only thing I had to purchase was PUL. So lucky to find someone on Ebay (Australia) selling it so once it arrived it was down to business.

Fabric requirements:

Flannel fabric
Towelling (terry)
PUL
Snaps

I made both cotton and flannel pads and would definately make more of the flannel - its nice and soft against the skin. The towelling I have on hand is lovely and thick and it definitely pays to add the PUL as this is a waterproof layer to prevent leaking. So I used a total of 4 layers as follows

Top or 1st layer – flannel or cotton
2nd layer – towelling
3rd layer – PUL
4th layer – flannel or cotton

I did change the shape of the pattern to make it easier to sew (see last pic) and plan on making many more! If you have been thinking about making these I would highly recommend you make one to try! They are easy to wash to, I soak mine overnight in a bucket of cold water then pop into a lingerie bag and wash with the towels!

SEW BUSY

It's been a busy month here at Thecabbagepatch!
Lots of people getting organised for Christmas early this year has seen me spend most of my days by the embroidery machine.
Lots of personalised bibs, burp cloths and blankets have been made and posted both here in Australia and overseas.
I also found the time to make some much needed kitchen towels which also double as hand towels. Use the cotton side for drying dishes and the thick towelling side on the reverse for drying hands.
Here's just a few I have made (some are embroidered) with many more to come would make great Christmas gifts too!

CHRISTMAS WREATH

Well I managed during the week to make my first Christmas project for this year! A lovely rag Christmas wreath using instructions found here.
I purchased two wreaths from Spotlight one 12 inches and one 14 inches as I wanted the wreath to be nice and full. I also purchased a total of 9 Christmas themed flat fats from Spotlight, three each in colours of red, green and cream. I also purchased some red ribbon in two sizes one smaller one to hang the wreath with and a much wider one for the bow.
Bear in mind you could use grosgrain ribbon, satin ribbon or a combination of ribbon and fabrics in making a rag wreath. You could also make a themed wreath ie Halloween, Easter, Valentines day or simply use one jelly roll of fabrics the possibilites for these are endless!
To begin I firstly used some wire to join the two circles together so they would not move in 4 places. Then I cut all fabric into 1.5 inch strips - no need to prewash fabric as you will not be washing this wreath and then into 6 inch lengths (you can of course cut them longer its up to you).
Then as per the instructions simply tied these all the way around each wreath ie one red, one green and one cream. Only tying once is sufficient and then remember every now and then to push the pieces close together as you want this wreath nice and full.
Once you have finished just add some ribbon at the top to hang your wreath and a lovely bow to place on your wreath as well (mine is not cut yet).
Very happy with the end result and can't wait to hang it on the front door for all to see! Ho Ho Ho!!!
